No need to wait for class to open or start! Open Enrollment allows you to join puppy class at any time. 

AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is an exciting program to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start with puppy education, socialization activities, and basic training.

At the end of the class, you will receive the education and materials for twenty skill sets, including five behaviors: sit, down, come, loose manners, and leave it. 

Upon graduation, you will also be provided with an AKC form signed by an AKC-certified CGC evaluator to be submitted for your puppy’s AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy certification!

At AH Dog Training School for Dogs in Portsmouth, RI

Rabies and Distemper shots are required

Cool Your Collars is for dogs who have big feelings toward any trigger. Behaviors exhibited may include snarling, barking, or lunging at triggers. This class is designed to teach you how to help your dog  decompress and handle situations that "rile them up." Distance and barriers are used to set the pups up for success so they stay in a mental state to learn and practice around other reactive dogs. 

At the end of the class, you will receive the education and materials on decompression, self-soothing, redirecting, managing situations, emergency skills and cues, and how to communicate with your dog.

Life Skills builds on basic obedience while introducing a few new behaviors. The skills you and your dog will learn will become valuable tools to navigate distractions and challenging situations.

At the end of the class, you will receive the education and materials for holding a sit and down, relaxing on a mat, impulse control, recall, leash manners, and leave it.

Reliable Recall is a practical learning course to strengthen your pup's "come" cue. Orientation is parents only - without your dogs. This will prepare you for effective training. Throughout the class, we'll build up your dog's recall to come away from their biggest distractions when called.

In our 4-week Scent Detection class, your dog will learn to detect the Anise scent through fun and engaging exercises. This class builds your pup's natural scenting abilities, improving focus and mental stimulation while teaching them how to identify and alert you to hidden scents. Whether your dog is a beginner or has some experience, this class offers a rewarding challenge for both of you!

Leash Manners is a practical learning course to improve your pup's leash-walking skills. Orientation is parents only - without your dogs. This will prepare you for effective training. Throughout the class, we'll delve into topics including heel vs. loose leash walking, mastering leash cues, settling in new environments, defensive walking, moving with you on walks, and polite manners around other dogs.

Three 1-Hour Weekly Sessions

Ages: 6 months or older

 
This is the perfect class to give your dog mental stimulation. Tricks are a fun way for them to learn and show off your fur baby to your friends and family! You will use luring and shaping techniques in each class to work on three tricks. We will begin with a warm-up trick followed by an intermediate-level trick. The end of class will be used to work on a project trick of your choice, projected to be completed by the end of the third class.

Tricks include Two Paws, Shimmy, Step, Hop, Heel, Center, and a project trick of your choice.

Cost: $60

Three 1-Hour Weekly Sessions

Ages: 8 weeks or older

This class covers all aspects of at-home body handling and grooming. It is designed for dogs uncomfortable with being handled or groomed and those looking to desensitize their new puppy to handling and grooming. You will receive the education and materials for correct body handling, at-home grooming, and desensitization at the end of the three weeks.
